A Message from the

of the City of Grand Forks

Mountain peaks, lush woodland, sparkling rivers, friendly people, historic buildings and sunny skies await you in Grand Forks, BC.

Picturesque and undiscovered, Grand Forks boasts spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and peaceful relaxation. The four distinct seasons offer the most desirable climate in the province; warm dry summers, brilliantly coloured autumns, gently snowy winters and early spring times allow you to enjoy endless outdoor adventure, garden to your heart’s delight and live the rural life to its’ fullest. This quiet community enjoys an average of over 2000 hours of sunshine annually and has 120 frost free days per year.

The area’s economic generators revolve around the forest industry, agriculture, mining and tourism. Health services include the Boundary Hospital; announced March 2004 – a $7 million upgrade of the H.M. Rezanasoff Wing and portions of the Hospital. The former Boundary Lodge is slated to be an Assisted Living facility. www.interiorhealth.ca Grand Forks has a variety of educational facilities; two elementary schools, a high school, an alternate school and pre-schools. Upgrading & college training is available at Selkirk College (www.selkirk.bc.ca)

Transportation is served by Greyhound Bus Lines and the Grand Forks Airport. The Airport is close to skiing and golf, as well as 3 kilometers from the US border. The city encourages private and commercial aircraft to use the facility for tour packages, semi-scheduled service, private jets and maintenance. The new 24 hour Medivac service provided by Helijet through the BC Ambulance Service offers night ambulance service for the region. Helijet located out of Richmond provides two Beech 2000s with pilots trained for the GPS approach and night operation into the Grand Forks airport.

Community services and amenities are comprehensive and include an aquatic centre, an arena, a bowling alley, ball parks, a curling rink, fitness centres, a library, an art gallery, museums, a movie theatre, tennis courts, a senior’s centre, a skateboard park, a BMX track, many parks and numerous walking, hiking and biking trails. Nearby golf courses and ski hills are a short drive away.

Grand Forks is a community of rich cultural diversity. Many of the residents of Grand Forks can trace their origins to the Doukhobor religious sect. Newcomers to the area benefit from the traditions, cuisine and artistry of the original settlers. A thriving artists’ community has developed in this valley of natural, unspoiled beauty. Affordable housing is still available in our “Best Kept Secret” Valley.

Business opportunities for entrepreneurs abound; close proximity to the USA/Canada International Border facilitates trade. If you are looking for a change in your lifestyle, consider Grand Forks; where the deer have the right- of -way and a traffic jam is 5 cars at a 4 way stop.
