Trans Canada Trails/Spirit of 2010 Trails

Whether you choose to bike, hike, horseback ride you will never run out of trails to follow to find that adventure you’ve been longing for. The Trans Canada Trail / Spirit of 2010 Trail is woven into the very landscape throughout the Boundary Country. The Trans Canada Trail / Spirit of 2010 Trail through Boundary Country follows primarily the old Kettle Valley rail bed all the way from Rock Creek to Christina Lake. Through the city of Grand Forks, the trail follows a combination of side streets and local trail systems, eventually re-connecting with the Kettle Valley rail bed and heading east. Just south of Christina Lake, The Trans Canada Trail/Spirit of 2010 Trail veers off the Kettle Valley rail bed for the last time and traverses north to Christina Lake via Highway 3.

Big White
Big White Ski Resort on Big White Mountain, one of the highest peaks in the southern Monashees, truly lives up to its name, with well over 100 marked runs fanning out from the summit of Big White. Cross-Country Skiing
There are many places in the Boundary Country that are great for cross-country skiing. In addition to The Trans Canada Trail/Spirit of 2010 Trail network there are local trails and “secret” spots which are known to only a few and where conditions may not be consistent all season. When you come to stay, ask your host where you might find such a gem. You might get lucky and enjoy the best skiing experience ever!

Jewel Lake offers groomed x-country trails. The Phoenix Interpretive Forest, besides boasting a great family alpine ski area, also has the closest cross-country ski area to Grand Forks. This area is conveniently located 30 minutes west of Grand Forks and is groomed on a regular basis from December to February. There is a warming shelter [Dacha] at the Eholt lookout with a stunning view to the north and east. Maintenance of the Dacha and trails is funded through donations made at the Dacha. The alpine facility nearby boasts a great food concession for those needing to recharge après-ski.

This popular recreation sport is becoming more and more the rage as sledders take to the mountains in search of the untouched powder. Whether trail riding or mountain climbing there are miles and miles of terrain to cover throughout the Boundary Country, including The Trans Canada Trail/Spirit of 2010 Trail network. But just like cross-country skiing, there are places that have been kept secret or where private spots are known to only a few. If you are lucky enough to meet with someone who could share their experience, you may find your winter sledding dream come true.
